Primary Catchment=Haupteinzugsgebiet Nebenmeere sind Meere, die durch Inselketten oder Meeresrücken vom jeweiligen Hauptmeer abgegrenzt sind bzw. durch Festlandteile oder Halbinseln von diesen abgeschnürt werden. Nebenmeer ist ein Oberbegriff für Randmeere, Binnenmeere und Mittelmeere. Oft werden auch Teile eines Nebenmeeres wiederum als Nebenmeer bezeichnet. Ein Binnenmeer (binnen = ‚innen‘) ist ein großes Nebenmeer, das mit einem Meer oder Ozean durch eine Meerenge (Meeresstraße) verbunden ist, an der das gegenüberliegende Ufer mit bloßem Auge zu erkennen ist (Sichtverbindung). Randmeere sind Nebenmeere, die am Rand der Kontinente bzw. Ozeane liegen und nur durch Inselketten, Meeresrücken oder Tiefseerinnen – also nur unvollständig – vom freien Ozean getrennt sind. Sea=Meer,Unter Meer (Niederdeutsch: die See) versteht man die miteinander verbundenen Gewässer der Erde, welche die Kontinente umgeben, auch „die Ozeane“. Wird diese marine Wassermasse als ein Gewässer verstanden, spricht man von dem Weltmeer. Bay=Bucht,Eine Bucht ist in der Geomorphologie ein dreiseitig von höherem Gelände umschlossenes geographisches Objekt in lokalem oder regionalem Maßstab. Meist wird der Ausdruck für unterhalb eines Wasserspiegels liegendes Gelände benutzt, sodass sich die Bucht in Gestalt eines annähernd bogenartigen Zurückweichens der Uferlinie äußert. Auf dem trockenen Land werden auch Gebiete so bezeichnet, die von einer annähernd bogenartig zurückweichenden Gebirgsfront umgeben sind. Bei Gewässern ist die Bucht das Gegenstück zur Landzunge River=FLuß,Ein Fluss (von althochdeutsch fluz, zu fliozan „fließen“) ist ein natürliches, linienhaft fließendes Gewässer auf Landoberflächen. Landläufig können aber auch nur Fließgewässer mittlerer Größe als Fluss bezeichnet sein; davon unterschieden werden dann die größeren Ströme und die kleineren Bäche. Diese beiden Begriffe werden in den Geowissenschaften aber vermieden, weil ihre Abgrenzungen regional und historisch variieren und darum nicht allgemeingültig sind. Lake=See,einn See ist ein Stillgewässer mit oder ohne Zu- oder Abfluss durch Fließgewässer, das vollständig von einer Landfläche umgeben ist. Strait=Meeresenge, auch Meeresstraße (kurz Straße) oder Kanal, regional auch Sund oder Belt genannt, ist eine Stelle eines Meeres, an der sich zwei Landmassen nahe kommen und so einen Engpass des Meeres bilden. Gulf=Golf,ist eine größere Meeresbucht. Die Bezeichnung Meerbusen oder Meeresbusen ist gleichbedeutend und wird weniger häufig verwendet. Lagoon=Lagune,ist ein verhältnismäßig flaches Gewässer, das durch Sandablagerungen (Nehrung) oder Korallenriffe – wie zum Beispiel bei einem Atoll – vom Meer weitgehend oder vollständig abgetrennt ist.[1] Andere nicht klassische Entwässerungsprobleme, die sich auf die Abgrenzung und Unterteilung von hydrologischen Einheiten auswirken, sind Stauseen, umgeleitete Gewässer, die von kleinen Bewässerungsgräben bis hin zu Transfers zwischen Becken reichen, Inseln und Küstengebiete mit großen Tidenhub. Den hydrologischen Einheiten der 5. und 6.
